Wendy Ford

February 14, 1949 — April 28, 2021

Wendy Shelley Ford, age 72, of Troy, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at home surrounded by loved ones. A graveside service will be held Sunday, May 2, 2021, at 3 p.m. at Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Ross Lankford officiating.

Wendy grew up in Troy, where she attended Charles Henderson High School. Perhaps the most memorable of her high school excursions, was the great opportunity she had to study abroad in Europe before her senior year. Upon graduation, she journeyed to the great crimson and white town of Tuscaloosa to immerse herself in the full collegiate experience at the University of Alabama. There she found long-lasting friendships through her sisterhood with the Phi Mu Sorority and obtained her degree in education.  Wendy dedicated her life to taking care of others. She was a keen observer and a careful listener, and always wanted to hear and know the details of all her children’s and grandchildren’s daily lives. She cared for her family and friends deeply and had a strong sense of duty and responsibility, all of which were invaluable traits in her work as a schoolteacher and her roles as a mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend. Wendy was an excellent pianist and cherished the opportunity to gather and play for her family through the Christmas season. She loved making torn paper collages, watching her grandchildren play, playing with them, and spending time at the family farm in Troy. Wendy took on her battle with cancer with courage and integrity. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

Wendy is survived by her children, Robert Hunter Ford, Jr., Brannon Sykes Ford (Kimberly), Anna Shelley Ford Smith (Gabe), and Amy Charlotte Ford; grandchildren, Joanna Morgan Ford, Mason Hunter Ford, Robert Hunter Ford, III, Sophia DeAnne Ford, Brannon Sykes Ford, Jr., Whitney Anne Ford, Stella Claire Smith, Katherine Shelley Ford, and Jude Orion Smith. She was preceded in death by her mother, Robbie Shelley; father, Rudolph Edward Shelley; and sister, Jane Shelley.

The family wishes to extend many special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Clearview Cancer Center and Hospice Family Care in Huntsville, AL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to First Baptist Church of Troy-General Fund (200 West College Street, Troy, AL 36081).
