Karen Prince

December 15, 1952 — January 27, 2021

Karen Denise McDonald Prince, age 68, of Goshen, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, January 27, 2021. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2021, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Reverend Johnny Turvin officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dorein Virtue said, “When you sparkle you inspire everyone around you.” Karen sparkled—inside, outside, and on the tracks she left behind. She shone with a bright light from within, and her radiance was pure and infectious. Karen was good—good to everybody, could befriend just about anybody, and always made her space an open, welcome home. She was a beloved Mimi to all with two secret weapons to cultivate warm fellowship, a kitchen and food. Mimi’s cooking could entice the masses from the farthest distances and her homemade dressin’ was good enough to draw smiles to faces and pull tears from eyes. At Mimi’s, the food was always about more than satisfying a hunger, as her dishes served-up counselors, consolers, and powerful truth serums with every bite. Mimi was resilient, full of wisdom, and the stronghold of the family. Comfort and direction were always just a “call Mom” away.

Karen woke every day, bright and early, to count her blessings, heed opportunities, get John’s coffee and breakfast hot and ready, and greet everyone with a prompt “Good Morting.” She never missed a moment to share a phone call with family and friends, summon her heifers to the fence line for a closer look, take a lap around the pool for regular exercise, enhance her Florida self-tan, or get bedazzled in jewels. Her style was signature, from head to toe, and her curls a long-lasting look. Perhaps the best way to describe her is to keep this “long story short” and simply say, of all the shiny things Karen could have ever worn, none would have ever been able to outshine the glitter of her soul or the glimmer of her sunny spirit. Karen was a jewel and will forever be someone’s sparkle.

Karen is survived by her husband of 27 years, John Prince; daughters, Lisa Williams (Lawrence) and Brandi Hartman (Matt Johnson); step-sons, Justin Prince and Jason Prince; grandchildren, Hannah Hartman, Aubry Williams, Aniston Williams, Myra Prince, Hailey Prince, and Jazlyn Prince; brother, Harry McDonald; and step-mother, Mae McDonald. She was preceded in death by her father, Clayton McDonald; and mother, Virginia Hill Young.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in her honor to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105). Friends and family can sign the guestbook online at www.greenhillsfuneralhome.net. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Prince family.
