James "Jimmy" Siggers

March 20, 1942 — November 10, 2020

James “Jimmy” Monroe Siggers, age 78, a lifelong resident of the Springhill Community in Troy, Alabama, signed off 10-24 on his last radio call following an extended illness, Tuesday, November 10, 2020. He’ll be moving on down the boulevard to his Home20 with a graveside service Thursday, November 12, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery with Jason Grantham officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Nichols, Danny Thompson, Caleub Mount, Lee Davis, B.J. Helms, and Mario Flowers. Honorary pallbearers are Nelson Motes and Charles Ellenburg. Visitation will be Thursday, November 12, 2020, from 1-1:40 p.m. at Green Hills Funeral Home.

Jimmy, best known by his handle Red Man (a moniker true to his fondness for a good wad of chew), lived for the big rig, long distance haul across the United States’ blacktops for more than 52 years. It all started right in his hometown backyard with Ira Thompson as a good, honest earning to support his family. Red Man grew-up and branched-out and committed years drawing lines in the Big R for companies like Superior, Dorsey, Boyd Brothers, Sanders, Hudson, and Wal-Mart. His rig is still rumbling the roads of Pike County hauling logs, and if you look closely, you might even catch a glimpse of his prized Alabama hat perched in the cab. Red Man carried the love of a few special women down the road, as he was forever captured by his wife and four daughters. He was sure to let everyone know he was never outnumbered, only spoiled, and each of them sure to let everyone know he was not their Daddy, or our Daddy, only My Daddy. Get your ears on and break-19 for a special message: Roll on, roll on along. Roll on My Daddy till you get back home. And a final 10-4, good buddy.

Mr. Siggers is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Jane Siggers; daughters, Lee Nichols (Donald) of Luverne, Marie Hall (Dean) of Troy, Jane Helms (Bobby) of Troy, and Darlene Brooks (James) of Union Springs; grandchildren, Crystal Helms, Angela Newbrough (Tim), Danielle Hall (Mario), Heather Wright (Eric), B.J.
