James "Jimmy" Jordan

February 25, 1944 — October 7, 2020

James “Jimmy” Ray Jordan, age 76, a lifelong resident of Troy, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at home surrounded by loved ones. A funeral service will be held Monday, October 12, 2020, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Pastor Brian McLendon officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with John Register, Jeffery Berry, Tracy Davis, Cliff Davis, Glen Atkins, and Patrick Lucas serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jimmy lived an all-around life of service, providing reliable repair services to patrons in his hometown and answering a call of duty to rescue and advocacy. Upon graduation from Goshen High School, he went to work, studying the intricate skillset of television and appliance repair under the helm of Rountree’s Radio and Television and Ed’s Radio and TV. With 15 years of experience secured, he launched his own business, Jordan’s TV and Appliance Company, where he consistently restored TVs, radios, small appliances, tape players, and stereos. In 1987, he acquired Troy Alarm Company and was long recognized as the premier security service provider and friendly face for the company until his medical retirement in 2015. Jimmy was a community servant, contributing time and commitment to the Pike County Rescue Unit as a certified scuba diver and licensed as a Class II EMT, volunteering in the emergency department at the local hospital, serving as an aid with the city ambulance service, taking-call as a volunteer firefighter, and enlisting his qualifications with the American Red Cross. It was hard to pull Jimmy away from his work, but on the occasions that he found time off, he was an outdoorsman through and through. He looked forward to trips to Lake Eufaula fishing, camping, boating, and slinging people from tubes; or, to the sparkling shores of the Emerald Coast for a healthy dose of sunshine and sand. He was a master griller, best known for his steaks and chicken wings. Even through his illness, he never shared his secrets for perfect steaks. Jimmy was a devoted husband and encouraging partner, a loyal friend, trusty confidant, and a great counselor. He has advised plenty with the same wisdom, “I’ll just give you something to think about.”

Mr. Jordan is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sheila Jordan; children, Tammy Olive (Chris) of Augusta, GA, James M. Jordan (Misty) of Ozark, AL, Kenna Metivier of Fairbanks, AK, Christopher Price (Erika) of Springtown, TX; grandchildren, Heather and Cody Olive, Joshua and Jacob Holladay, Gavin Price, and Braden and Tiffany Jordan; sister, Marie Brooks of Phenix City, AL; cousins, Donna Brooks Kilcrease (Jerry) of Phenix City, AL, Stephen White (Hannah) of Montgomery, AL, Timothy Green (Karen) of Wetumpka, AL, and Christina Green of Phenix City, AL; sister-in-law, Lisa Kemp (John) of Prattville, AL; numerous nieces and nephews; and a beloved Maltese, Ferb.
