Guynette Smith

May 15, 1936 — April 21, 2021

Guynette Green Smith, age 84, of Jack, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at home surrounded by loved ones. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 23, 2021, at 11 a.m. in the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Kenneth Chancellor and Reverend Rick Hayes officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Don Senn, Boyd Deal, Bart Ellis, Dwan Pope, Lavonne Barron, and Michael Dillard. Honorary pallbearers will be Tracy Deal and Tony Shiver. The family will greet friends following the service in the cemetery.

Mrs. Guynn was a longstanding vibrant and loyal fixture of her accounting and bookkeeping office located just a stone’s throw away from the downtown Troy Square for more than 30 years. Before launching her own business in 1990, she was a dependable and friendly resource as a county clerk inside the Pike County Courthouse.  Mrs. Guynn lived to work, and loved to live. She dedicated long hours to her trade and was sincere in giving her all to each of her clients. It’s been chuckled that “she’s probably up in Heaven doing taxes now.” On her off-hours, she relished the opportunity to enjoy the sights from her cabin in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, dote on her grandchildren who loved her as Granmamma, and explore almost all the great states of the U.S. with her adventurous friends. At home, it was her great pleasure and absolute mission to cook and gather. She “loved to feed ya’” and she cooked “big,” enough for the whole neighborhood even. She had a knack for whipping-up a soul-warming chicken pot pie or a hearty pot of dumplings that emulated the comforts of a heartfelt hug. Mrs. Guynn was an authority on the art of shopping QVC and could share her best advice on snagging bargains on unconventional goods like lobster and cheesecake. She was a real-life wonder woman, conquering her feats large and small and encouraging her bystanders to carry onward. She was a best friend, trusted confidant, and proponent for always sharing important endearments. At Mrs. Guynn’s, there was no getting out of the door without a “love you.”

Mrs. Smith is survived by her children, Alan Smith (Lisa) and Kim Carroll (Terry); grandchildren, Joshua Smith (Ashley), Jessie Carroll Grant (Todd), and Ciara Smith Legg (Jacob); great-grandchildren, Addyson and Noah Thompson, Denver Smith, Cadence and John Austin Legg, and Fox, Camille, and Georgia Grant; siblings, Joe Green (Erma), Peggy Green Shine, Brunell Eddington, and Thomas Green (Diane); and her beloved coondog, Red, and yarddog, Lucy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Smith; grandson, Austin Kyle Smith; great-granddaughter, Railey Mae Grant; parents, Tom and Eula Green; sister, Merle Green Coggins; and brothers-in-law, Jack Shine and Bobby Eddington.

The family wishes to extend many special thanks to her faithful and attentive caregivers Lamar and Sandy Faulk. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery Fund (4616 County Road 205, Troy, AL 36079) or to Remembering Railey (27770 Highway 87, Jack, AL 36346).
