Edna Faye Flowers, age 79, of Wetumpka, Alabama, formerly of the Spring Hill community, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021. We measure life in units like months and years, trips around the sun to another birthday, and even the spans between special occasions. Where folks like Mrs. Edna Faye Flowers are considered, it might be most appropriate to measure by the wrinkles impressed by her many smiles, or the count of beloved babies she rocked to calm, or the fluff and rise in her perfectly patted homemade biscuits. Her life, her works, and her heart can be summed up to one very agreeable measurement-big.

Edna Faye was homegrown to Pike County, a native of the Shellhorn community, and a Goshen High School, Class of 1960, graduate. She and Lannie Flowers locked sights and hearts on the dance floor one fateful night, and the August following her graduation, sealed their union for their eternities. They settled in the Spring Hill community, and she paved her way as a top-notch homemaker.

Edna Faye perfected skills in embroidery, quilting, cross stitching, canning, and serving-up decadent country meals and sweet treats. She always challenged herself with a good armchair round of Family Feud, The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune, or the infamous game of pressed luck, Whammy, and she never bypassed an opportunity to tune into a good sports game. She fostered compassionate care as an impromptu nanny to a host of neighborhood kids and grew to be loved by all as Grannie. Edna Faye and Lannie were founding members of the Spring Hill Volunteer Fire Department where she long continued to be a staunch supporter of their fundraising and community campaigns.

Edna Faye was strong in principles and faith, both roots of her solid upbringing and the foundation of her life. She lived to do for others before herself and left lasting impressions along her way. Edna Faye maintained a steady course, kept her faith, finished her race, and most importantly, taught her family about the importance of good biscuits.

Mrs. Flowers is survived by her children, Johnny Flowers (Julie) of Montgomery, AL, and Dianne King (Jeff) of Wetumpka, AL; grandchildren, Emily Giannobile (Joey) of Monroe, LA, Jacob Flowers and Jason Flowers both of Montgomery, AL; great-grandson, Hudson Giannobile; and siblings, Ann Howard of Montgomery, AL, and Jean McCarthy of Dothan, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lannie W. Flowers; parents, Fletcher and Lucille Spivey; and siblings, Mary Baker, Jack Olin Spivey, Ricky Spivey, Max Spivey, Jimmy Spivey, and Fletcher Spivey, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the Spring Hill Volunteer Fire Department (6973 AL Hwy 87, Troy, AL 36079). Friends and family can sign the guestbook online at www.greenhillsfuneralhome.net. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Flowers family.
