Obituary

 

Christopher Louis Schubert, cherished husband, father, and friend, died Saturday, December 21, 2019, in Troy, Alabama, following a battle with cancer. He was 72.

Services will be held Saturday December 28 2019, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Troy with the Rev. Curtis Kennington officiating. The family will greet friends during visitation at 10 a.m., preceding the funeral at 11 a.m.

Born September 15, 1947, in New York, Mr. Schubert called Houston, Texas, and Monroe, Louisiana, home before moving to Troy, Alabama, to own and operate Wood Furniture Company, Home Express, and Sears Troy. He was also a founding owner of Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls. Mr. Schubert was a graduate of the University of Louisiana Monroe with a degree in art and advertising. While at ULM, he was a member of Kappa Alpha social fraternity.

Mr. Schubert was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry and in multiple ministries. He was a past president of the Troy Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, a founder of the Pike Animal Shelter, and a former board member of multiple organizations including the Pike County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, Troy Downtown Revitalization, and the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Schubert was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Schubert Cummings, and her husband Malcolm; by his father, Walter Franz Schubert, and his wife, Genevieve; and by his brothers, Walter Stephen Schubert and Frederick Landry Schubert.

Mr. Schubert is survived by his wife, Donna Clark Schubert; daughter, Charlotte Schubert Willcox, and her husband, Charles, of Miami, Florida; daughter, Chrissie Schubert Duffy, and her husband, Kevin, of Andalusia, Alabama; as well as by six grandchildren whom he adored: Thomas Duffy, Anna Duffy, Mary Margaret Duffy, Clay Willcox, Cooper Duffy, and Charlie Willcox.
