Pastors Craig Holmes and Rick Hayes will be officiating with the staffs of Troy Health and Rehabilitation and Troy Regional Hospital Emergency Department serving as honorary pallbearers.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 36 years, Joel “Michael” Folmar, Jr.; children, Joel “Joey” Michael Folmar, III (Tollie) and Anna “Catie” Catherine Edwards (Drew); mother, Catherine Rountree; brothers, Michael Rountree (Janice), David Rountree (Kay), Jesse Rountree, and Adam Rountree (Tess); numerous nieces and nephews; and cherished comrades, Leisha Matthews, Sharon Fuller, and Patty Herndon. She was preceded in death by her father, Winright Jackson Rountree; and nephew, Blake Rountree.
To ask around about Barbara, everyone says the same, “she was the kindest, most caring, selfless woman there was.” Evident through her actions, as she was always thinking of others. In 1987, her passion and purpose truly blossomed. She proudly graduated from Troy State University with a degree in nursing and went to work right away serving her community under the trusty guidance of Dr. Pearlstein. Shortly after in 1988, she committed to the Troy Regional Hospital, where she served for nearly 30 years in multiple capacities, most notably as the directors of both the Intensive Care Unit and the Emergency Department. In 2006, she also joined the staff of Troy Health and Rehabilitation as a certified wound care nurse and director of staff development, devoting herself to her position for 14 years. Barbara always took the extra measure attending to her patients, family, and friends. Whether it be a mischievous prank to encourage a laugh, bringing home a patient’s pet for safekeeping until they were well, marathon shopping to find a thoughtful gift for someone special, or just embracing the joy in her surrounding company. Her nurture extended to nature, with the keen ability to befriend most any animal. There never was a dog on the side of the road that she didn’t pet. If you needed her, Barbara came, quickly, and supported you indefinitely. Undeniably she was an angel among us. May the warmth of her spirit continue to blanket her beloved and be an exemplary model of humanitarianism.
