William Emerson

June 27, 1931 — July 30, 2017

William Bernard Emerson, Age 86 of Troy, died Sunday, July 30, 2017 at his home following a lengthy illness. Bill was retired from the US Air Force where he obtained the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his service he was a physician's assistant for Dr. Golden in Brundidge until they both retired together.  After his retirement he used his love of tennis to help the youth of Troy. Bill was instrumental in providing a chance for Troy's youth to experience and learn the game of Tennis. At the same time he was a valuable asset to the Troy University Tennis Team as an instructor. Bill was so valuable to the local tennis scene that Mayor Jimmy Lunsford pronounced him the "Dean of Tennis" in Troy, Alabama.

Funeral services for Bill Emerson will be held Friday, August 4, 2017 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Minister George Merritt and Reverend Danny Arnold officiating. Following the funeral the carriage will transport him  to the gravesite where he will receive Military Honors by the United States Air Force . Visitation will be held Friday, one hour prior to the service at Green Hills Funeral  Home.

His survivors include; wife of 44 years, Jerri Emerson of Troy, Children, Kathy (Tim) Hocutt of Columbia SC., Nora (Paul) Cammack of Montgomery, Dale (Engrid) Emerson of Prattville, Royce (Elizabeth) Emerson of Birmingham, Carla (Jason) Oswald of Troy. Grandchildren, Adam Hocutt, Teresa Hocutt, Patrick (Kate) Cammack, Monica Cammack, Katie Emerson, Tammy Emerson, Ruth Emerson, Grayson Emerson, Helen Kate Emerson, Cassidy Oswald, Emerson Cole Oswald and Gray Oswald. great grandson, Jack Cammack. Bill was preceded in death by his 6 siblings

.Serving as pallbearers will be, Tom Connell, Paul Oswald, Cole Oswald, Patrick Cammack, Adam Hocutt and Gray Oswald.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to the Troy Tennis Association for an annual Memorial Tennis Tournament in Bill's Name. C/O Lynn Helms, 113 N. Hunter lane, Troy, Al., 36079.
