Wiley D. "Donnie" Dunn, age 78, of Troy, Alabama, completed his life's mission and was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on October 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Donnie was a man of deep faith who found his greatest joy in spreading the Gospel and leading others to know his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. His faith was not only something he preached but something he lived by every day. Donnie served as pastor at Banks Baptist Church for 20 years, and more recently, pastor at Bethel Baptist Church. For many years, he was director of the Bible Reading Marathon held annually in Troy.
He carried a deep sense of duty, courage, and dedication throughout his life. He proudly served in both the Army and the Army National Guard for more than 30 years, earning two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and many other accolades. After retiring, he also worked as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 12 years. His service to his country was a reflection of the strength and character that defined him.
Above all else, his family meant the world to him, especially his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He loved cheering them on in every part of life, celebrating their accomplishments, and making sure they knew how deeply they were loved. He was always their biggest fan.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Brenda Brady Dunn. He also leaves behind his children, Heather Dunn (Erin), Erica Garrott (Brad), and Brady Dunn (Lauren); and his grandchildren, Addi Garrott, Sarah Braydon Garrott, Cole Garrott, Braylor Dunn, and Braxley Dunn. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Briley, Mary Carol Harden, and June Allen, as well as his sisters-in-law, Eleanor Andress (Rex), Patsy Goodson (Ray), Janice Brady, Cheryl Brady, brother-in-law, Tim Brady (Lori), and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eloise Dunn Renfroe, father, Alton Lamar Dunn, brother, Walter “Teddy” Dunn, sister, Jean Barron, and brothers-in-law, Wayne Brady and Terry Brady.
The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Dunn family.
