Sherby Messick Bryan

June 8, 1948 — March 28, 2026

Goshen, Alabama

Sherby Messick Bryan, a beloved and graceful soul whose life was a testament to devotion and elegance, passed from this world on March 28, 2026, at Baptist South in Montgomery, Alabama. Born on June 8, 1948, at Andalusia Hospital in Andalusia, Alabama, Sherby's journey through life was marked by an enduring commitment to her family and a radiant love for the finer details that bring joy to everyday living.

Known affectionately by her granddaughter Erica as "Pearl"—a name bestowed because Sherby was deemed more precious than diamonds and pearls—and also cherished as "Mimi" within her family circle, Sherby was a wonderful homemaker whose heart and hands were always dedicated to the comfort and happiness of her loved ones (She was known for being the “Mama Hen” to all). Her proudest accomplishments were those simple yet profound contributions to family life: cooking dressing and cream corn that graced their reunions, nourishing not only bodies but the priceless fabric of family unity.

Sherby’s personality was marked by a prissy charm; she delighted in having her nails perfectly done with a design of her choice and the elegance of well-selected attire, complemented by carefully matched jewelry and shoes—a passion so deep she maintained a dedicated shoe room. She loved flowers—particularly pink roses, red roses, ferns, and hibiscus—which seemed to mirror her own vibrant spirit. Her fondness for shopping was almost legendary—some would say she shopped until she dropped—each outing a chapter in the story of her joyful approach to life’s pleasures. She loved Jimmy “PA” and he loved her, but her shopping wasn’t one of his “favorite” things because he always said she spent too much but he always appreciated her beauty and thought she was the most stylish woman on earth.

Her family was the cornerstone of Sherby’s existence. She is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, James "Jimmy" Bryan; her loving daughter Cindy Rhodes and stepdaughter Julie Arrington; granddaughters Erica Ellis Wright (with Edward Wright), Latoya Love; grandsons Cody Ellis (Jessica), Jessie Love; and a host of great-grandchildren: Sean Buchanan, Emari Wright, Ellis Johnson, Eilah Wright, Emma Ellis, Eternity Wright, RB Allen, Jacob Jordan, Jonjalyn Howard, and Brianna Myers; Brother: Robert Messick (Denise); Sister: Elaine Bryan. There are not enough thank yous to express a heartfelt gratitude to E (grandson-in- law), whose unwavering willingness to support his family stood as a beacon of love and strength.

Sherby was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Jessie Messick; her son Anthony Rhodes; and several siblings, whose memories she carried tenderly in her heart.
