Sara Griffin Knight

September 13, 1929 — November 24, 2022

Sara Griffin Knight, age 93, a lifelong resident of Troy, Alabama, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022. A funeral service will be held Sunday, November 27, 2022, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Wilkes officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with David Griffin, Danny Griffin, Stoney Griffin, Craig Griffin, Bobby Brown, and Ricky Free serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at Green Hills Funeral Home.

Sara claimed her very own Friday the 13th the day she was born, though her life never cast a dismal gloom of superstition. She rose every day beaming a spirit full of happiness, hopefulness, and helpfulness. Sara knew hard work, dedicating years of service across many local and prominent retail outfitters. She retired from Sikes and Kohn Country Mall at age 73 and carried with her countless friendships, many memories, and a few juking tales from her afterhours outings that might never be told. Sara long-loved the hearty fruits of a well-labored vegetable garden, passing on the artful skills of pea shelling and canning to her own children. She could go from digging and dirty to dolled-up and dancing in a quick minute, and she was always eager for the chance to head out on the town. She was a regular around Troy at her favorite Mexican restaurants indulging cold beers and burritos all the way. Sara’s adventures were never without intent. She would fish to catch, shop to buy, joke to laugh, and meant what she said. Sara was a blessing. She passed late on Thanksgiving night and forever will be a blessing we all count twice.

She is survived by her daughters, Deabron Carr (Howard), Sandra Wilkes (Steve), and Patsy Scarbrough (Tommy); son, Paul Knight (Joanna); granddaughters, Candy Brooks (Mike), Deanne Stephens (Todd), and Ginger Brown; grandsons, Chuck Howard and Jeffrey Knight (Erika); several great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Richard Knight; parents, Jesse and Annie Griffin; brothers, Everett, Bill, James, Robert, and Braxton Griffin; grandson, Jesse Brown, and son-in-law, Robert H. "Bobby" Sexton.

The family wishes to extend many heartfelt thanks to Renee Brown and the other ladies at Troy Split Ends for their styling expertise, generosity, and welcoming Mrs. Knight for her weekly visits; to Cindy at C & K Nails for her luxe pampering skills; and special thanks to the staff of Compassus for all their compassionate and tentative care. Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made in her honor to Compassus Living Foundation (503 N. Euclid Ave., St. 9E, Bay City, MI 48706 or online at compassuslivingfoundation.org). Friends and family can sign the guestbook online at www.greenhillsfuneralhome.net. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Knight family.
