Sara Gayle Stinson Lopez

Sara Gayle Stinson Lopez April 7, 1955 – October 3, 2022 Gilbert, AZ.  ‘Gayle’ made her heavenly transition peacefully and surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Sara ‘Fannie’ Jones Stinson; father, Roy ‘Red’ Stinson, and brother-in-law, Lewis West.  She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Steve Lopez of Gilbert, AZ; her two children, James Lopez, Gilbert, AZ, and Sarah Lopez, Prattville, AL; her sister, Joy West, Troy, AL; her brother, Roy Gene Stinson, Troy, AL, and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Gayle was born in Troy, AL where she attended Troy State University majoring in Education.  She taught first grade at Fort Rucker Primary School for 13 years and earned her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.  It was at Fort Rucker where she met her future husband who was attending flight training.  After getting married, she and her husband moved to his duty station at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where she proceeded to teach in public and private schools.  It was in North Carolina where she became a mother and raised her two beautiful children.  Gayle loved children.

After retiring from teaching, she and her family moved to Gilbert, Arizona to experience the southwest lifestyle.  She loved her Christian faith, college football, traveling throughout the United States and abroad, and the beach.  What Gayle loved the most was being a wife, a mother, a sister, and aunt.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held at Green Hills Funeral Home at 1621 S. US Hwy 29, Troy, AL on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at 1:00 pm followed by services at Green Hills Chapel at 2:00 pm.  Burial to follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
