Born on August 31, 1940, in Troy, Roy Gene lived a life marked by commitment, kindness, and unwavering support for those he loved.

Roy Gene’s journey began as a native of Troy, where he attended Spring Hill Elementary School, Troy High School, and Troy Laboratory School before furthering his education at Troy University. His educational path laid a strong foundation for a life characterized by hard work and service. His dedication extended beyond academia into his patriotic duty, proudly serving in the Army Reserve for 19 years—a testament to his steadfast commitment to his country.

Professionally, Roy Gene devoted 37 years to the Survey Crew for the State Highway Department, where his expertise and diligence contributed significantly to the development and maintenance of vital infrastructure. His colleagues and community regarded him with great respect, acknowledging the depth of his experience and his unwavering work ethic.

Though Roy Gene did not have children of his own, he was a pillar of strength, guidance, and love for his family, especially his nieces and nephews, whom he treated as if they were his own sons and daughters. He was more than an uncle or a friend; to many, he was a father figure—a steadfast presence who imparted valuable lessons about life and the great outdoors. His passion for nature was not only a source of joy for himself but also a gift he shared generously with his nephews, instilling in them a deep respect and love for the natural world.

Roy Gene’s kindness and dependability extended to all aspects of family life. He was always someone his loved ones could rely on, demonstrating his care through countless acts of compassion, including caring for his sister Joy’s dog during her absence. This simple act encapsulated the essence of his character—a man who truly cared wholeheartedly for his family’s well-being.

Roy Gene is survived by his beloved sister, Joy West; niece, Sarah Lopez; nephews Judson West and his wife Julianne, Jonathan West and his wife Laura, and Justin West ( Leanne Motes); great nieces Mary Hayden West, Emmerson West, Ceciley West, and Vanna West; and great nephews Jackson West and Hayes West (Drew Kelly). He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy E. and Sarah F. Stinson.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Enhabit Hospice and the exceptional care provided by Stephanie, Jerrica, Tiffany, and Martha, as well as to his devoted caregiver Priscilla Powell, whose compassion brought comfort during his final days.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate Roy Gene’s life will be held on March 21, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Green Hills Cemetery, located at 1621 South US HWY 29, Troy, Alabama with Green Hills Funeral Home Directing. Friends and family are invited to gather, reflect, and pay their respects. Pastor Brian Dovey will be officiating the service and Pallbearers are as follow: Judson West, Jonathan West, Justin West, Jackson West, Hayes West, And Steve Lopez.

Roy Gene Stinson’s legacy is one of unwavering dedication, generous spirit, and profound love for his family and community. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
