Rickie Wayne Austin, born on August 28, 1958, and a stalwart member of the community, passed away on January 22, 2026. He leaves behind a rich legacy of hard work, family dedication, and a passion for the simple joys of life. Visitation will be held at Green Hills Funeral Home in Troy, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service that will begin at 1:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Rickie's life.
A graduate of Pike County High School, Rickie demonstrated both academic ability and athletic talent, participating in the football team, which laid the foundation for his strong work ethic and team spirit. He went on to pursue a successful career as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver, known affectionately by his CB handle "Hoss." His skills and contribution to the workforce spoke volumes about his commitment to excellence and reliability.
Rickie served in the Army National Guard, where he had the opportunity to travel overseas, fulfilling his duty and serving his country with honor. His military service was a source of pride, showcasing his dedication to both family and nation.
He was a man of many interests, finding great enjoyment in fishing, gospel music and the sounds of bluegrass music, which brought him joy and relaxation. Friends and family alike will remember him for his sense of humor and zest for life.
Rickie is survived by his beloved children, Jennifer McCall (Brian) and Mitch Austin (Heather), who carry forward his legacy of love and strength. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Jackson Austin, Brayden Ventura, Khloee Joiner (Shane), Cam McCall (Dana Carr), Logan McCall, Colton McCall, Blake McCall and Micah McCall, who brought him endless joy and pride.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Merlyn Austin; loving nieces, Kelley Fralish (Vince) and Karmen Howard (Brett); and dear cousin, Joyce Turner. Their bonds will ensure that his spirit continues to thrive within the family.
Rickie was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Gail Austin, whose love and companionship he held dear; his parents, Grover and Lois Austin; and his brother, John Austin.
