Ovie Dee Grimes, age 88, of Troy, died Sunday, September 13, 2015, at Troy Regional Medical Center. Ovie Dee was born May 4, 1927, to Mr. and Mrs. Perlie and Effie Crenshaw Grimes. He owned Grimes Grocery Store on Highway 87 outside of Troy for over 50 years. Patrons of Grimes Grocery often found candy and other unaccounted for items in with the groceries they purchased. He was an expert at spoiling not only his kids, but other kids as well. Ovie Dee also oversaw the Center Ridge Cemetery for many years. A funeral service for Ovie Dee Grimes will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Rev. Buck Hudgens, Pastor Remonia Smith, and Pastor Martha Baxter officiating. Burial will follow in the Center Ridge Cemetery with Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Serving as his pallbearers will be Bill Dunn, Wes Dunn, Josh Howard, Jeremiah Kendrick, and Alan Pennington. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at Green Hills Funeral Home. Surviving Ovie Dee is his loving wife of 63 years, Peggy Grimes; his daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Charles Dunn of Troy, and Lisa and Phil Howard of Troy; his grandchildren, Bill (Laura) Dunn, Wes Dunn (Carol Coleman), Courtney (Alan) Pennington, Caitlin Dunn, Josh (Kala) Howard, Chelsey (Jeremiah) Kendrick; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, John Oree Grimes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Center Ridge Cemetery Fund (C/O Michael Roundtree, 2500 Pike County Lake Road, Troy, AL 36079).
