Mrs. Powell was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, but her true calling was as wife to Bobby Powell. They were married for over 73 years and enjoyed each other’s company. Opal was a hard worker and had various jobs throughout the years. She was the first manager of the original Kentucky Fried Chicken store in Troy, Alabama, over 50 years ago. She continued on in food service as a supervisor at Troy State University before transferring to be the switchboard operator there. Opal loved her family and will be missed by all who knew her.

Loving survivors include her devoted husband, Bobby D. Powell; daughter, Sharon Watkins; four grandchildren, Shannon Powell, Holly Carroll (Jonathan), Amber Hickman (Clint), Abby Brookshire (Jason); as well as five great grandchildren, and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Butch, Dale and Dean Powell, and her parents, Hardy & Leila Lee. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Compassus Hospice for their care and kindness the past few months.

The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Powell family.
