Mabel Jean Jones

Dr. Mabel Jean Jones passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Per her request, no services are planned at this time.

Jean was a devoted educator who spent her life in school, either as the student or the teacher. She attended Troy High School, Troy State University, and the University of Alabama. In 1973, she received her Ph. D. in English from the University of Tennessee and spent the next 30 years teaching at Columbia State Community College in Columbia, Tennessee. Jean returned to Troy in 2002 to help her ailing mother. She taught part-time at Troy University until 2010. She wrote, “I loved teaching and always enjoyed my students.” She was kind to animals and appreciated flowers and beautiful gardens. Jean was a faithful member of Bush Memorial Baptist Church. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Felton & Jewel Jones. Jean is survived by several cousins and many friends.

Memorial donations may be made to Troy Animal Rescue Project (TARP), PO Bx. 771, Troy, 36081 in memory of Jean. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Jones family.
