Leonard Stanley Moore, husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026. Born on July 21, 1943, Mr. Moore led a life marked by unwavering commitment to family, faith, and community.

Throughout his distinguished career, Leonard served in a variety of vital roles that reflect both his versatility and his deep sense of responsibility. Early in his professional journey, he and his beloved wife Mary lovingly served as house parents at two different children's homes, notably at the Alabama Baptist Children's Home in Troy. His passion for justice and education was evident in his tenure as a professor of criminal justice at Troy State University, where he guided and inspired many students. Additionally, Leonard held the position of deputy sheriff in the Macon, Georgia area, further demonstrating his dedication to public service. His compassionate nature was also expressed through his work as a registered nurse at Troy Regional Medical Center. Most recently, he contributed his talents at Sikorsky Aircraft, leaving a lasting impression on his colleagues.

A godly man, Leonard was an active member of Park Memorial Methodist Church, where his melodious voice enriched the choir. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, grounding his actions and relationships. Those who knew him fondly remember his skill as a gunsmith—a hobby that brought him joy through target shooting and competition shoots. Yet, above all, he loved his family dearly and treasured his wife of 63 years, Mary.

Leonard's family was the heart of his existence. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Moore; his children, Steve Moore and Beth Chancellor (Dewayne); and his grandchildren, Jamie Moore (Faith), Zack Chancellor (Camden), Jessica Whitman (Jake), Josh Moore (Angie), and Paige Norris (David). His legacy continues through nine great-grandchildren who bring light to his memory. Leonard also leaves behind his brother, Ronald Moore (Ellen), who shared in his life's journey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mercedes Moore, and his sister, Sherrie M. Floyd.
