Joyce Elaine Bigwood, age 83, of Troy, Alabama, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020, at home surrounded by loved ones. Mrs. Bigwood is survived by her husband of 50 years, Edward Bigwood; sons, Edward Earl Bigwood (Naomi Hatfield) and Hershel Blevins; daughters, Linda Blevins, Theresa Blevins, and Sandra Aulds; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alvina Hundley; and sons, Lyn Blevins and Bradley Blevins.
Mrs. Bigwood was an adventurer, traveling cross country to take in all the roadside wonders and scenery. If she wasn’t seeing the sights from the window of her 5th wheel camper, it was from the deck of a boat drifting atop glassy waters. She loved to be on the water, especially when fishing was involved. She could fish all day, even without bait. She was happy just to drop a line. One of her fondest fishing memories was on The Royal Polaris, trolling off the coast of San Diego, California, where she reeled in her prized catch, a 35 pound yellowfin tuna. Mrs. Bigwood was an accomplished singer and performer. She found delight in playing the piano, with her playlist ranging from Big Band tunes, to the Oldies, all the way to gospel classics.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105). Friends and family can sign the guestbook online at greenhillsfuneralhome.net. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Bigwood family.
