Joann will be remembered as a caring woman who devoted herself to others in both her work and her daily life
Joann Wright Teague passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Joann was born and raised in the Shady Grove community in Pike County, Alabama, where she attended school and sat in front of Will Teague who affectionately taunted her with hair pulling. He told her often that he was certain she would be his wife. Upon her graduation from Goshen High School as a member of the Class of 1969, they were married, and moved away to Detroit, Michigan. She spent most of her adult life in Detroit; and they moved back to the Pike County area in 2020.
Joann will be remembered as a caring woman who devoted herself to others in both her work and her daily life. She went on to enjoy working as a nurse in the ER at Huztel Hospital, where caring for others was a natural part of who she was. Along the way, she built a life marked by love, hard work, and devotion to family.
She also found joy in the things that made life special. Joann had a passion for the casino and a reputation, especially up north, for being an outstanding Southern cook. These simple pleasures, shared with the people around her, helped create lasting memories for those who knew and loved her.
Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Will Teague, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage; her parents, 3 brothers and one sister.
She leaves behind a loving family who will continue to cherish her memory. She is survived by her sisters, Shirley Bowden and her husband Larry, Ola Solomon and her husband Leo, Susie Sankey and her husband Jesse, and Annie Ruth Pierson and her husband Arthur. She is also survived by her godchildren, Sonya Braden and Cornelius Venson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. May her memory bring comfort to all who were blessed to know her.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Green Hills Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Green Hills Funeral Home with Rev. JD Sankey officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rock Elvy Missionary Baptist Church where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Teague family.
