With grateful hearts for a life well lived and the assurance of God's promises, we celebrate the life of Janet Elizabeth Harrell, a devoted wife, loving mother, faithful Christian, and cherished friend, who passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026. A graveside service to honor and remember Jan will be held at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Friends and family are invited to gather at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, AL Hwy. 93, Troy, to pay their respects and celebrate the impactful life Janet led.
Janet's greatest joy in life was her personal relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith was the foundation upon which she built her life, and she faithfully lived out that faith through love, kindness, compassion, and service to others. She looked forward with confidence to the day she would see her Savior face to face.
She dearly loved her church family at Bethel Baptist in Banks and treasured the fellowship she shared there. She also held a special place in her heart for the congregations of Good Hope, Northside, and her many friends throughout the Baptist community. Janet found great fulfillment in volunteering at the Baptist Mission, where she joyfully served those in need with a generous heart and a willing spirit.
Janet's love extended to all of God's creation, especially her beloved cats, who brought her endless companionship and happiness. She treasured her family above all earthly blessings, sharing a lifetime of love with her devoted husband and taking immense pride in her son, Doug. Her family was one of God's greatest gifts to her.
She embraced life with enthusiasm and elegance. Janet loved traveling, especially taking cruises, where she delighted in exploring new places and making lasting memories. She also enjoyed dressing beautifully for every occasion, bringing grace, confidence, and joy wherever she went.
Those who knew Janet will remember her unwavering faith, her caring heart, her joyful spirit, and the love she freely shared with family, friends, and strangers alike. Her life was a testimony to God's grace, and her legacy will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
While her family and friends will deeply miss her presence, they find comfort in the promise of Scripture, knowing that because of her faith in Jesus Christ, she is now at home with her Savior, where there is no more pain, sorrow, or tears, but only everlasting joy.
Janet's memory will forever be cherished by her loving husband; her beloved son, Doug; her loving sisters, LaDonna Schlitter (Willard) and Barbara McLaughlin, and her caring sister-in-law, Brenda Burgans; as well as her extended family, many dear friends, and the countless lives she touched through her faith, kindness, and faithful service.
The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Harrell family.
