James Therron Powell

February 28, 1967 — December 12, 2023

Troy

James Therron “Jim” Powell, beloved husband and father, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at the age of 56. Visitation will begin at 11:00am on Friday, December 15, 2023, with a chapel service at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery with Shane Johnston, Luke Johnston, Chris Dickey, Dr. Jack Jones, Atlas Green, and Huey Green serving as pallbearers. Known around town as the "Preacher", Jim loved people. He loved his family and his boys looked forward to the weekend bonfires and breakfast at Jack’s. Jim also loved animals of all kinds—chickens, goats, cows, horses and anything in between. He was a storyteller and kept his boy’s attention with the stories of all the folks he met at work and at church. Jim never met a stranger, and a famous quote of his was “If I didn’t like you, I wouldn’t pick on you,” because he enjoyed ministering to people. His congregation at church meant the world to him and he will be greatly missed. Loving survivors include his wife of 13 years, Jessa Powell; sons, James and Johnathan Powell; his siblings, Ronald L. “Trea” Powell, Jr., Shannon P. Shirley (Jay), Shaun Powell; his niece, Bailey McKnight; and his nephew, Trevor McKnight. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald L. Powell and Patricia B. Powell.
