James Arnold Coston a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community member, passed away on November 3, 2025, at the age of 79. He was born on March 6, 1946, and spent his life dedicated to both his family and his profession.
James moved to Montgomery in 1967 where he began his career working at Vaughn Plumbing. Demonstrating an entrepreneurial spirit, he opened Coston Plumbing in 1975, establishing himself as a Master Plumber. His business thrived not only through his expertise but also through the values he instilled in his family. He had the joy of sharing the legacy of his plumbing business with his three children and grandson, ensuring that his passion and dedication would continue in the generations to come.
Education was important to James, who attended Sessions Elementary School and graduated from Charles Henderson High School in 1964. He further enriched his knowledge by attending Troy University.
James was known for his kind and loving nature. He was a devoted member of Murphy's Chapel Church in the Needmore community, where he contributed to the spiritual and social fabric of the community. His family and friends will remember him not just for his professional accomplishments but for the warmth and compassion he shared with all.
James leaves behind his loving wife, Brenda Coston, along with his daughters, Kelly Bennett (Aubrey), Holly Wright (Jeff), and Angie Gavrian (Aaron), and his sons, Jimmy A. Coston (Stephanie) and Wiley Lott (Suzy). He cherished his grandchildren, Morgan Wray (Kaila), Brantly Coston (Savannah), Mason Wray, Coston Wright, Hunter Coston (Lauren), William Wright, Alia Gavrian, Ariel Gavrian, Chance Lott, and Caitlin Shumate (Collin). His joy expanded with the arrival of three great-grandchildren: Hannah Wray, Locke Coston, and Lily Shumate. He is also survived by his brother, John Thomas Coston, sister, Mary Coston Helms, and several nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Virginia Price Coston; his sister, Jeanette Coston Scoggins; as well as his niece, Cindy Coston.
The family will hold visitation on Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Murphy's Chapel Church, followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with his six grandsons, Morgan Wray, Brantly Coston, Mason Wray, Coston Wright, Hunter Coston, and William Wright serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Coston, Lance Sanders, Greg Hollis, David Alexander, Keith Smith, Danny Carter, and Johnny Brown.
James Arnold Coston will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of love and dedication to family and community will endure in the hearts of those he touched.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Murphy's Chapel Cemetery Fund. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Coston family.
