James Howard Carr

August 11, 1941 — September 27, 2025

Troy

James Howard Carr, of Troy, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 27, 2025, as he was comfortably surrounded by his loving family and friends. A visitation will be held at Green Hills Funeral Home in Troy on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 5:00-7:00pm. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Baker, Florida, at 11:00am with burial to follow at Adams Cemetery in Holt. Visitation begins at 9:00am. Pallbearers will be Adam Carr, Greg Goodwin, Paul Knight, Steve Wilkes, Jim McPherson, and Faron Evans.

Howard was born in Crestview, Florida, on August 11, 1941 to Emory and Earlene Carr. He spent his youth in the surrounding area, mostly between Carr Hardware Store and the Spence brothers’ dock with a fishing pole in his left hand. After graduating from Choctawhatchee Senior High School, he drove his car all the way to Seattle, Washington, embarking on a journey into a bountiful adulthood. From attending Troy State University, to working for the United States Treasury Department, to developing one of the world‘s, most beautiful plots of real estate on the Emerald Coast, Howard’s Legacy never ceased servitude to his family and our Lord. He concluded his entrepreneurial endeavors by (semi) “retiring” in 2001, trading business for God’s gift of being a wonderful full-time husband, father and grandfather. Howard spent every day of his life strengthening his relationship with God and bringing those around him closer together and to Him.

Loving survivors include his loving wife of 12 years, Deabron Knight Carr; his sons, Kevin Carr (Patricia), Kelly Carr; granddaughters, Kayla Carr, Eden Groder (Luke), Kasey Carr; great granddaughter, Violet May Groder; sisters-in-law, Linda Carr Audrey Gabbard; brothers-in-law, Hubert Comer (Marilyn), Paul Knight (Joanna), Steve Wilkes (Sandra), Tommy Scarborough (Patsy); numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Terry & Vicki McPherson and Dick & Lori Freeman.

Howard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Janie Elaine Comer Carr; brothers, Benny Carr, Steve Carr; parents, Emory & Earlene Carr; and brother-in-law, Benny Gabbard.

The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Carr family.
