Jackie Jerome Hand

Jackie Jerome Hand Sr., beloved father and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2025. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Green Hills Funeral Home in Troy with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery with Ashley Shelley, Scott Shelley, Gary Tew, Jason Harris, Bobby McCoy, Ted McCoy, and Rodney McCoy serving as pallbearers.

Jackie was born in Headland, Alabama, on June 12, 1941. He was raised in Headland and Newville, Alabama in his early and high school years. Jackie graduated from high school in 1959 in Newville where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He went on to join the Army National Guard in December of 1959 and served until 1967 attaining the rank of Sergeant. In 1962, he married Shirley McCoy from Newville and was married for 62 years until her death in 2024.

Jackie worked for UPS for 29 years and after retiring, he volunteered at the Judson Baptist Association ministry centers in Abbeville and Headland where he worked until they moved to Troy in 2023. Jackie loved his church family at Trinity Baptist in Headland where he was a charter member. He served as a deacon, Sunday School director, and teacher for 36 years. He enjoyed Auburn sports and was a big fan. He loved his family and friends and never met a stranger. He will be missed but we know he is in heaven with his wife and daughter.

Jackie was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley McCoy Hand; his daughter, Gayla Kaye Hand White; and his parents, Glenn & Myrtle Hand. Loving survivors include his son, J.J. Hand (Brandy); grandchildren, Davy Jones (Brooke), Kaylee Jones, Addison Hand, and Conner Hand; great grandchildren, Wyatt Osnoe, Waylon Jones, Westin Jones, Jaelynn Nelson, Nora Hand; son-in-law, Eddie White; sister, Marcia Shelley (Kenny); as well as many loving friends and family.
