Howard Eugene Manning, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted friend, passed away peacefully at home on August 14, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on June 9, 1939, in Alabama, Gene led a remarkable life filled with love, faith, and dedication to his family.
Gene’s unwavering spirit and incredible talents made him a cherished member of his community. His skills as a lead welder at Disney World, particularly on the iconic Space Mountain roller coaster, showcased his commitment to excellence and creativity. Beyond his work, Gene was known for his generous heart; he could fix almost anything and would often lend a helping hand to those in need.
As a devoted Christian, Gene's faith was an integral part of his life. He was ordained as deacon at Fleetwood Baptist Church in February of 1994, and more recently attended and served at Springhill Baptist Church. His love for Jesus and active participation in his church reflected his deep-seated values and morality, which he instilled in his family.
Gene was immensely proud of his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and fulfillment throughout his life. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Joyce Manning, who stood by his side through all life’s moments. Together, they fostered a nurturing and loving home, filled with laughter and warmth.
Gene leaves behind his children, Randy Manning (Donna), Tony Manning, and Rik Manning (Angela); and his grandchildren—Dawn Key (John), Nick Manning (Kristen), Machelle Manning, Amy Andrews (James), Dustin Manning, Vinny Manning (Sara), and Kate Manning; and 14 great grandchildren—will forever cherish their memories with him, remembering the many lessons he imparted and the countless moments of joy shared. He is also survived by a sister, Dena Manning, who, along with the rest of his family, will remember him fondly.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Sybil and Howard "Buck" Manning, brothers Jerry, Larry, and Willie Ben Manning, and sisters, June and Mildred.
Visitation will be held on August 18, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a Chapel Service at 10:30 AM, both at Green Hills Funeral Home with Dr. Don Hatcher and Rev. Bo Deloney officiating. Burial will follow at Hepzibah Baptist Church Cemetery with Aaron Rhodes, David Rhodes, Mardy Rhodes, Chris Rhodes, Nick Manning and Roger Blair serving as pallbearers.
