Glenn Haywood Bracewell, 93, of Troy, Alabama, passed away on May 23, 2026, after a brief illness. Born on July 11, 1932, and raised on a farm in Blountstown, Florida, Glenn came to embody three things above all else: his faith in God, his love for his family, and his lifelong devotion to being a good steward of the land.
Glenn was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War era. Following his military service, he returned to civilian life with characteristic determination, enrolling at Florida State University and later attending the University of Florida's Ranger School. He went on to build a distinguished career in Alabama's forest industry, founding and growing multiple successful timber and lumber operations over the span of several decades. His work earned him wide recognition as one of Alabama's most respected figures in the Alabama forestry community. Whether he was walking his timberland near Clayton, planting loblolly pine, or mentoring the next generation of foresters, Glenn approached his work with the same quiet joy and sense of purpose that defined his life.
Glenn was a devoted member of Bush Memorial Baptist Church for many decades, where his faith was the foundation of everything he did. He was fond of saying that the good Lord had blessed him as a custodian of the land, and he took that responsibility seriously until the very end.
He was preceded in death by his father, Beno Bracewell; his mother, Maudie Bracewell; three brothers; one sister; and his son, Robert Glenn Bracewell.
Glenn is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Joyce Ellis Bracewell of Troy, Alabama; his brother, Joe Bracewell and his wife Dannie; children, Beth Rose (Chris), Al Bracewell (Christine); daughter-in-law, Paula Bracewell; grandchildren, Evan Rose, Hudson Rose, Ben Bracewell (Katherine), Sara Kate Miller (Sam), and Jake Bracewell (Morgan), Amanda Bracewell Gallatin (Brandon), Matthew Bracewell (Andrea Morabito), and step granddaughter Beth Gibson; great-grandchildren Parks, Hayes, and Emma; Eila, Joyce, and Molly, Phoebe, Scout and Pepper, Mabel Bracewell, and Jack, Joey, and John; as well as many extended family and friends.
A celebration of Glenn’s life will be on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 10:00am at Bush Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Dustin Coleman and Rev. Otis Derrah officiating and visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Green Hills Cemetery in Troy, Alabama. Visitation will also be at Green Hills Funeral Home on Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 4:00-6:00pm.
The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Bracewell family.
