Fred Caffie

April 14, 1962 — May 23, 2020

Fred Douglas Caffie, age 58, a lifelong resident of Brundidge, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly at his home Saturday, May 23, 2020. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2020, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Reverend Charlie LaDon Foster officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be the Pike County High School Class of 1980, William “Pete” Foster, Shaq Simms, Damon Andrews, Edward Walker, Greg Caffie, and Curlie Glenn.

Roll Tide and Go Pike County Bulldogs! That’s what Mr. Caffie is shouting from the Heavens. He was a faithful fan to both, even through the tough years. His allegiance to the bulldogs stemmed from his own football career at Pike County High School. He was the proud #66 for the 1979 team. When he wasn’t cheering on his favorite football teams, he found peace in the hum of a lawnmower or the drop of a fishing line and the sounds of fine music. He tinkered in all kinds of trades, always repairing things, and had mastered the craft of building fine barbeque grills. He devoted 14 years to his trade with Southern Classic Foods and was an integral part of his working family. Mr. Caffie was a pillar of the community and an exemplary model of a husband, father, and granddaddy Fred.

Mr. Caffie is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carolyn Dixon Caffie; children, Benwana Dixon (Latavia), Stephanie Sharee Caffie, and Fredrick Dexter Caffie; grandchildren, Shemari Dixon, Shemaia Dixon, Leah Dixon, and Jaxson Caffie; brothers, Jefferey Caffie (Gussie) and Nelson Caffie (Yulanda); sisters, Livia Fenn and Denise Caffie; numerous nieces and nephews; mother-in law, Minnie Lee Carter; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Della Mae Caffie; brother, Harlan Dexter Caffie; and sister, Lillian Caffie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his honor to the American Diabetes Association (2451 Crystal Drive Suite 900 Arlington, VA 22202). Friends and family can sign the guestbook online at greenhillsfuneralhome.net. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Caffie family.
