Exa Mae Dykes Pouncey

Exa Mae Dykes Pouncey, age 94, a lifelong resident of Pike County, Alabama, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022. A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Pastor Bo Weed officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Jeff Hollis, Cody Hollis, Dillion Hollis, Brandon Pouncey, and Gregory Ricks serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Green Hills Funeral Home.

 

Exa was born to James Allen and Bennie Kennedy Dykes on June 17, 1928, in their home located in Josie, Alabama. Exa lived in Josie up until she turned 18 years-old and moved away for work, but she didn’t stray too far away from home. She moved to Troy, Alabama and made it her home. Troy, Alabama is where Exa would get married to Zollie Pouncey, raise three children (Al, Carolyn, and David), and start a career with the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service Office of the Department of Agriculture.

 

She is survived by her son, David Pouncey (Tina), and her daughter, Carolyn Pouncey Grayson; her grandchildren, Mallory Fuller (Lane), David Justin Pouncey, Joseph Brandon Pouncey, William Ryan Pouncey (Renee), James A. Pouncey, Kelley Evans, Teresa Busby, Terry Pouncey (Sherry), and Sherri Dunn (Jonathan); her great – grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hunt, Brooklyn Pouncey, Myles Pouncey, Hudson Pouncey, Mia Pouncey, Addyson Hester, Hayden Hester, Jada Busby, Kaitlyn Busby, Skylar Busby, Spencer Dunn, Jack Dunn, Will Pouncey, and Wes Pouncey; her great great – grandchildren, Hadleigh Grace Pouncey, Adeline Hunt, Sophia Pouncey, Sean Pouncey, and Seth Pouncey; and her daughter - in - law, Karen Pouncey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Zollie A. Pouncey, Sr; her son, Al Pouncey; her grandson, Bradley Austin Ward; great – grandson, Dillon Pouncey; her parents, Allen and Bennie Dykes; and her siblings, Frank Dykes, Frances Ingram, Fred Dykes, Ernest Dykes, and Elouise Dykes.
