Dr. James Oscar Colley, III joined his Lord on October 26, 2013.  He was born August 29, 1941 in Troy, AL to Annette Folmar Colley and Dr. James O. Colley, Jr.
He always said his childhood was a perfect one, with front yard football, baseball, and the teenage canteen.  He graduated from Troy High School in 1959.  His life then became focused on a ministry of healing.
Jim attended Baylor Military School in 1960, received his undergraduate degree from Howard College in 1964, and taught math and science in Hueytown, AL in 1965.  He received a Master of Science and Physiology degree in 1968 from the University of Mississippi.  Jim was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, All State Football and Sigma Nu Fraternity.
Jim’s medical education began at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1968.  His internship was at the University of Virginia, with his residencies at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham and the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  His hospital affiliations included Toronto East General Hospital, University of Alabama Medical Center, Lyster Army Hospital (Fort Rucker), Edge Regional Medical Center, Memorial Mission and St. Joseph Hospital (both in Asheville, NC), Bullock County Hospital and Druid City Hospital (Tuscaloosa).
Dr. Colley was a member of Fellow American College of Surgeons, Southeastern Surgical Congress, Southern Medical Association, American College of Emergency Physicians, American Trauma Society,  American Medical Associates and a candidate of the Royal College of Surgeons.
Jim served in the Army Reserve from 1968 until 1979, with two years active duty at Fort Rucker, AL.
In 1975, Jim married Patsy Haughton of Dothan, AL beginning 38 years of friendship and love.  His blessed daughters are Tricia Colley and Cathy Colley.  His life was dedicated to his girls and theirs to him.
His celebration of the life the Lord had given him was seen in his love of fishing, hunting, traveling, gardening and the joy he found in Alabama football.
His love of Christ and love of his church was shown through 36 years of service at First United Methodist Church.  He was a devoted teacher to the Covenant Sunday School Class and was always a faithful servant to his Lord.
Jim’s sisters are Helen Johnston (Larry), Carla Telfair (Ed), Leah Welty (Mike, deceased) and his brother,   Jere Colley (Judy).
A  Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, 213 N. Three Notch Street, Troy, AL 36081, followed by a graveside service at Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Steve Winton officiating and Green Hills Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Alvin Rodgers and Jim’s nephews, Jere Colley, Jr., Ted Telfair, Adam Johnston, Lawrence Johnston, Sam Johnston and William Johnston.  Honorary pallbearers will be the First United Methodist Church Covenant Sunday School Class and The University of Alabama Lunch Group.
Flowers will be provided by family.  Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Troy, AL.  Family and friends can sign the guest book at greenhillsfuneralhome.net.  The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Colley family.
