Daniel Scott Barnes

September 2, 1976 — June 10, 2022

Troy

Daniel Scott Barnes, beloved and cherished son, husband and father, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 10, 2022, at the age of 45. A Memorial Service will be at 2:00pm Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Green Hills Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Danny Arnold and Rev. Kim Young Smith officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be his work family from Sikorsky and Teamsters.

Daniel was a Kentucky native and met his wife, Jeanna “Gia”, 25 years ago while she was a student at the University of Louisville. It was love at first sight and after their first meeting, he never left her side. They enjoyed many adventures together and were looking forward to the “rocking years” where they could grow old together and watch sunsets from the front porch rocking chairs. After moving to Alabama, Daniel soon found employment at Sikorsky Aircraft where he worked his way up to senior aircraft technician and recently received his 15 year pin. Daniel enjoyed and appreciated the simple things in life and reminisced of his childhood where he spent a lot of time in his “Papaw Cat's" country store eating hoop cheese, working (mostly playing) in the tobacco fields, fishing, and attending church with his family. He would watch Little House on the Prairie religiously and swear that he was born in the wrong time period!

As the father of two sons, Daniel taught Chris and Ethan the value of hard work, kindness towards others, how to tell a good joke, how to love, how to cry, and how to laugh. He raised them to be respectful of others, and to love the Lord. Daniel was an avid “tinkerer” and handyman, and would always have a project he was working on. From building decks, helping to build his in-laws’ cabin, renovating various homes to making lamps and pet toys, he enjoyed making things with his own hands. His most recent project was the renovation of the bakery that he and his family just opened in downtown Troy. He knew it was a dream for his wife to have a bakery and he did everything to make her dreams a reality. As a “tinkerer”, Daniel kept random items in his pockets and in various containers around the house and would go searching for just the right thing that he needed when working on his projects. Some may call it junk, but to him it was so much more…

Pocket Treasures - Helen Springer Moran

What right have we to call it junk, A boy has in his pocket?

What matter that the bright padlock has not a key to lock it,

Or that the whistle doesn’t blow, The bell no longer rings?

Why should we with our vision small, Condemn these precious things?

He needs those nails to build a house,

And then, that piece of string is sure to come in handy for -

 Well, almost anything.

What pity that we cannot see these treasures with his eyes.

What pity we must lose so much to grow so old and wise.

Loving survivors include his wife of 25 years, Jeanna “Gia” (Swindall) Barnes; sons, Christopher Scott Barnes, Ethan Alexander Barnes; father, Larry Barnes; brother, William “Mikie” Barnes (Stephanie); multiple aunts, uncles, cousins, and father and mother in law Scott and Jeannie Swindall.
