He was one of ten children, born in Pike County and raised in a farming family. Family was very important to him and he always enjoyed family gatherings. As a young man, he entered the grocery business. He later went to work for the A & P Supermarket in Troy where he met his bride, Aline. A & P transferred him to several other locations and eventually promoted him to store manager. He and Aline bought the A & P store in Troy in 1974. In 1980-81 he built a new store located on North Three Notch Street.  They later purchased the Banks Buy-Rite and were the hub of the community until they retired. After retirement he filled his time with woodworking, primarily making porch swings. He produced over 900 swings made from cedar, cypress and pine. Many of his swings are still in use today.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Aline Sanders Garrett, daughter, Renae Garrett, son, Kenneth H. Garrett Sr. (Michele), grandsons Kenneth H. Garrett, Jr., Zachary L. Johnson, granddaughter, Emily Garrett, great granddaughters, Kelsey Gordy, Zoe Garrett, Aubriana Johnson, Skylar Grace Penn and great grandson, Traigan Johnson and brothers Johnny Garrett and Abner Garrett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Luther Garrett & Lucy Pearl (Lucille) Williams Garrett, siblings Evelyn Garrett, Melvin Garrett, James Garrett, Brady Garrett, Bradley Garrett, Douglas Garrett & Betty Garrett.  The family would like to express their gratitude to the Compassus Hospice of Troy for the caring, compassionate and dedicated services they provided.
