Charles Robert Pickett, age 84, of Troy, AL., passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Johnny Witherington officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Green Hills Funeral Home in Troy directing.

Affectionately known as “the Bread Man,” he retired from Colonial Bread Company after nearly 40 years of service. Mr. Pickett loved his family, fishing and flowers. He was a member and deacon emeritus at Southside Baptist Church in Troy. Mr. Pickett spent several tours of duty in the U.S. Navy, including tours on the aircraft carriers USS Bataan, USS Hornet and the USS Siboney.

Mr. Pickett was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Claudia Pickett.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nellie Grace Wall Pickett of Troy; one son, Charles R. Pickett, Jr. (Bobby), of Troy; one daughter, Joyce Hill of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; two granddaughters, Amanda Freke of Mt. Pleasant and Chelsea D. Pickett of Demopolis, AL.; two grandsons, Stephen D. Hill of Goose Creek S.C. and Charles R. Pickett III (Trey) of Demopolis; and one great grandson, Braeden W. Freke of Mt. Pleasant. He is survived by one brother-in-law, Frank G. Wall, Jr., of McIntyre, GA.; one sister-in-law, Lois W. Moore of Clearmont, FL., and one brother, Tom Pickett of Louisville, AL.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Baker, Billy Joe Weston, Trey Pickett, Stephen Hill, Wayne Teal and Ross Clemons. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Southside Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Southside Baptist Church at 522 South Brundidge Street, Troy, AL., 36081 or to the Salvation Army at 509 South Brundidge Street, Troy, AL., 36081.
