Betty Jean Sunday, age 89, of Troy, Alabama, passed away June 18, 2020. A graveside service will be Monday, June 22, 2020, at 10 a.m. in Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Marlon Brown officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Sims, Bart Gibson, Taylor Sunday, Jonathon Garner, Joe Sanders, and Jack Davis.
Mrs. Sunday was a dedicated homemaker, always attentive to her family’s needs and excited for the opportunity to gather in fellowship. She was a fine cook, with red velvet cakes and chicken and dressing topping the list of her most requested dishes; however, her spaghetti was by far the most anticipated fare served from her kitchen, simply delicious and happily prepared with wholehearted affection. Mrs. Sunday was thoughtful and generous, often gifting goodies and finding her greatest joy in sharing with others. She was loved, but she loved you more.
Mrs. Sunday is survived by her children, Patricia Rachel (Danny), David Sunday (Lea), and Randy Sunday; grandchildren, Amy Rachel, Senthy Sanders (Joe), Taylor Sunday (Mary), Carolline Garner (Jonathon), Brian Sunday (Lynde), Brandon Sunday (Brittany), Brandy Sunday, and Joey Sunday; great-grandchildren, Manning, Mary Daniel, and Rhett Sanders, Hollis Garner, Abby Sunday, Caston Sunday, Amelia Sunday, and Sean and Trinity Sunday; sister, Billie Gibson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Hollis Sunday; son, James Sunday; parents, Willie G. Jones and Lura Bell Taylor; and four sisters and two brothers.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staffs of Troy Health and Rehabilitation and Signature Healthcare for their tremendous care and support. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her honor to Bush Memorial Baptist Church (605 S George Wallace Dr. Troy, AL 36081). Friends and family can sign the guestbook online at greenhillsfuneralhome.net. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Sunday family.
