Betty Bateman

June 3, 1940 — August 17, 2017

Betty Laurie Hines Bateman, age 77, a longtime resident of Troy, Alabama, passed away August 17, 2017, at Enterprise Medical Center. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Troy with Dr. Mallone Chandler and Dr. Luke Lane officiating. Mrs. Bateman will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held Monday, August 21, 2017, from 4 -7 p.m. at Green Hills Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at 3 p.m. CST at Lake Mystic Baptist Church Cemetery in Bristol, Florida.

"Miss Betty" was the longstanding director of the Mother’s Day Out program at First Baptist Church, a cause to which she devoted years of passionate service. She was a member of First Baptist Church since her move to Troy in 1970. Mrs. Bateman was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson W. and Laurie O. Hines; and her brother, Bill Hines. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, B.J. Bateman, Jr.; children, Christy Bateman and Geoffrey (Nickie) Bateman; grandchild, Alaina Bateman; sister, Marilou Summers; and many special church friends and neighbors. The family also wishes to extend their many thanks to caregivers, Geretha Jackson and Annie Ruth McInnis.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Mother’s Day Out program (Attn: Ruth Ann Adams, 200 West College Street, Troy, Alabama 36081) or to a charity of your choice.
