Alphus Cloyd Adams

January 21, 1931 — November 3, 2025

Troy

Alphus Cloyd (A.C.) Adams, a cherished figure in the lives of many, was born on January 21, 1931, in Barbour County. He passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at the age of 94. Alphus leaves behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable stories that will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

Raised in Barbour County, Alphus met his beloved wife, Shirley H. Adams, in 1950. They celebrated a beautiful marriage that spanned over 64 years, built on mutual respect, unwavering faith, and love for each other and the family they created. Together, they welcomed two sons into their lives, raising them in an environment rich with values, respect, and love. Alphus was not only a devoted husband; he was a dedicated father and a proud grandfather. His family was his greatest accomplishment, and he took immense pride in watching his grandchildren grow and thrive.

The love he had for his grandchildren—Heather Walker (Brent), Blake Adams (Lydia), and Alex Adams—was profound; as was the love he felt for his great-grandchildren, Cameron Adams, Lola Adams, and Waylon Adams. He cherished every moment he spent with them and was so proud to be their “PawPaw.”

Alphus joined the United States Army, serving honorably for eight years. After his military service, he moved to Montgomery before settling in Troy, where he would become a familiar and beloved face in the community. He dedicated over 25 years of his life to Alabama Pest Control, where he earned the affectionate nickname of “the bug man.” He connected with many families and members of the Troy community and never forgot a face. Alphus was a friend to many and never met a stranger. His warmth and friendliness made every encounter special and left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to cross his path.

As a faithful member of his church, Alphus found strength and solace in his faith, embracing the belief that he was ready to embark on the next journey to heaven. His spirit was unwavering, reflecting a life well-lived, enriched with meaningful connections and cherished memories.

Alphus is survived by his son, Ronnie Adams, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Angie Adams, and six beloved nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; son, Alton "Bubba" Adams; parents, Alfred and Susie Adams; brother, L.K. Adams, and sister, Lavonia Godbold.
